Dome Over La Defense

Captain Mike Hephardt stood outside La Defense in the center of Paris.  In front of him was a force field dome which had appeared only 48 hours before in the Nevada desert.  It had been picked up by the satellites and it had moved quickly across the states and then the atlantic.  In the space of one hour, it had moved from Nevada to Paris, crossing the continental United states, the small country of Ireland, past the UK and then onto France.  In its path lay destruction never seen before.  Nothing worked in the path it had taken.  EM signals were distorted and the people left in its wake seemed to have gone insane.  Many spoke backwards and would disappear and then reappear again.  It had a diameter of two kilometers and a similar height.  An international team had been assembled.  The team had tethered itself together to go in.  The French were already inside it.  Mike had been given the task of leading the team when the Tekkie called him from Operations.  Mike was next to go in but his phone rang and he answered it.

"We decoded the video you were sent on your phone," said Riggs.

It had arrived in his mail box in the morning but no-one could detect where it had been sent from or make out its contents.

Mike had asked Riggs to help him crack it.

"It was running backwards and the encodings were off.  You gotta see this," said Riggs.

Mike played the video.  In it he saw an images of himself with graying hair and a rough shaven beard.  He was holding a card with the scrawled words.

"DON'T GO IN!!!"
